Summer Dental Care Tips for Kids

Even though it’s the summer and the kids have off until next school year, their dental care should never take days off. Consistent brushing and flossing is a very important routine on a daily basis for kids and adults.

And even if your family goes on vacation, be sure that your kids keep on brushing and flossing. Actually, there are several oral care tips to keep in mind when traveling and vacationing.

So join us to learn more…

7 Tips to keep up with kid’s oral care habits during the summer

1. There may or may not be more distractions for your kids throughout the summer— from swimming in the pool, to playing ball outside, road trips with the family, and more. Even though the kids may be pretty distracted, you (as a parent/guardian) shouldn’t be too distracted that your kid’s oral health goes downhill.

Throughout the summer, you may or may not need to remind your kids more often to brush and floss.

2. On day trips, road trips, and vacations, be sure to keep the toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss handy. If you keep these items in easy-to-reach places, it’ll be easier to stick your hand in your suitcase and pull out what you need to brush and floss.

Be sure you have a big enough supply for the entire family to brush and floss during vacation, day trips, and road trips.

3. Pack an emergency kit for dental emergencies. Items to include in your dental emergency kit: gauze, a small container with a lid, advil/tylenol, and a handkerchief. Include your dentist’s emergency contact information, too. (source:

4. If you experience a dental emergency, visit our webpage:
This page gives you tips on how to handle the most common dental emergencies. The information could be very useful while you’re vacationing or going on day trips or road trips.

5. If your kids love to swim (as most kids do), make sure you teach them how to be safe while in the water and near the pool. Make sure they don’t run really fast on slippery surfaces or dive into shallow water—doing so can cause oral injuries/trauma.

6. Even though the kids are on school vacation, make sure they continue to eat healthy and drink a lot of water. Eating healthy includes a good diet of veggies and fruit.

7. Last but not least, don’t forget to teach your kids not to slack off on their dental care during summer break! Educating your kids on how to practice routine oral care is extremely important.
